Aspect ratio is the inside diameter divided by the wire diameter. European 4-in-1 works from about 3.0 to 4.5, Byzantine from about 3.2 to 4.0, and Japanese 6-in-1 from about 4.0 up. These are approximate ranges, so test a small swatch. Aspect ratio explained covers the reasoning.
